Thick and Sweet Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients

  • cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons mirin or sherry or Marsala
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water (for cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
  2. Combine the cornstarch mixture with all other ingredients in the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat, watching closely to prevent boiling over.
  4. Once simmering, reduce heat to medium and stir occasionally for 5 to 10 minutes until thickened.
  5. Allow the sauce to cool slightly before using or storing.
