Ingredients

The salad

  • 8 oz chopped romaine or other green leaf lettuce
  • 1 plum tomato, chopped
  • 2 spears pickles, chopped

The croutons

  • 1 hamburger bun with sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon light butter
  • a pinch salt and garlic powder

The meat mixture

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 pound 95% lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon hamburger seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 ½ teaspoons yellow mustard
  • ½ teaspoon pickle juice

The toppings

  • 2 oz reduced fat sharp cheddar, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and prepare a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  2. Cut the hamburger bun into bite-sized cubes and toss them in melted butter, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Spread the bun cubes on the baking sheet and bake for 15-16 minutes until crispy.
  4. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onion until tender.
  5. Add ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned, then drain excess liquid.
  6. Stir in hamburger seasoning, ketchup, mustard, and pickle juice until combined.
  7. On each plate, layer lettuce, meat mixture, cheese, tomatoes, and pickles.
  8. Top each salad with croutons and serve.
