Instructions
- Heat a Dutch oven or stockpot on medium-high heat and add the butter.
- Once melted, add white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt, stirring to combine.
- After the sugar has melted, add vanilla extract and stir until the glaze thickens.
- Pour in the water and stir until the glaze caramelizes.
- Add the sliced sweet potatoes, stirring until they are fully coated in the glaze.
- Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 35-45 minutes until the potatoes are soft.
- Check for doneness by piercing the sweet potatoes with a fork; they should be tender.
- Stir before serving, allowing the glaze to thicken further upon standing.
