Ingredients

The vegetables

  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt

The sauce

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup slivered almonds
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ lemon zest

Instructions

  1. 1. Boil green beans with water and salt in a large skillet until bright green and tender-crisp.
  2. 2. Transfer beans to cold water or ice bath to stop cooking.
  3. 3. Pour out remaining hot water from the skillet and melt butter over medium-low heat.
  4. 4. Add almonds and stir until lightly golden.
  5. 5. Return green beans to the skillet, add lemon juice and zest, and sauté until warmed through.
