Ingredients

The extract

  • 8 beans vanilla beans
  • 1 cup good quality vodka

The containers

  • 1 jar Mason jars or decorative bottles

Instructions

  1. Cut the vanilla beans to fit your jar and slice them lengthwise halfway to expose the seeds.
  2. Place the beans in the jar and cover them completely with vodka.
  3. Seal the jar and shake gently, then store it in a cool, dark place.
  4. Shake the jar gently once a day for about a week.
  5. After a week, shake less frequently, about once or twice a week for a month.
  6. Let the vanilla extract sit for 6 to 8 weeks before using, but it’s best to wait at least 3 months.
  7. When the jar is about 25% empty, top it off with more vodka and let it sit for a couple of weeks.
