Ingredients

The oatmeal

  • ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk or milk of choice
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground cardamom (optional)

Optional toppings

  • as desired chocolate chips
  • as desired yogurt
  • as desired milk

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Combine oats, almond milk, water, and salt in a saucepan.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cook until thickened, about 8 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in cocoa powder, maple syrup, cinnamon, and cardamom if using.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetener as desired, then serve with toppings.
