Penne Pasta with Easy Marinara
Ingredients
The sauce

whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes, with purée

The pasta

dried penne pasta
Instructions
- 1. Boil a large pot of water and season it with kosher salt.
- 2. Crush the canned tomatoes in a bowl and set aside.
- 3. In a cold skillet, add olive oil and garlic, then heat to medium until fragrant.
- 4. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- 5. Add the crushed tomatoes to the skillet along with salt, pepper, and basil, and bring to a boil.
- 6. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 7. Cook the pasta until 2 minutes shy of the package instructions, then transfer directly to the sauce.
- 8. Toss the pasta in the sauce and add pasta water if needed.
- 9. Garnish with fresh basil and serve.
