Ingredients

The filling

  • 9-10 apples Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and cut into ¼" slices)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

The topping

  • cups old-fashioned oats
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • cups brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and set aside.
  3. In a smaller bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, and baking powder, then combine with melted butter to form clumps.
  4. Layer the sugared apples in a 9x13 baking dish and sprinkle the oatmeal mixture on top without packing it tightly.
  5. Bake uncovered for 50-60 minutes until the apples are soft and the sauce is bubbly.
  6. If browning too much, cover with foil for the remaining cooking time.
  7. Let cool for 20-30 minutes before serving.
