Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb 85% lean ground beef
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • ¾ cup chicken broth or water
  • Tbsp tomato paste
  • ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
  • ¾ tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ cup parmesan, finely shredded
  • to taste fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef in crumbles, searing until golden brown, then crumble and cook through.
  3. Transfer beef to a plate lined with paper towels, leaving some fat in the skillet.
  4. Reduce heat, add onion and sauté for 4 minutes, then add garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, broth, tomato paste, cooked beef, basil, and oregano; season with salt and pepper.
  6. Bring to a light boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  7. Adjust consistency with water or tomato paste as needed.
  8. Stir in parmesan and serve warm over pasta, garnished with more parmesan and parsley.
