Ingredients

The brownies

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • cup packed light-brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

The topping

  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • ½ cup packed light-brown sugar
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and prepare an 8x8-inch baking dish with aluminum foil and butter.
  2. Whisk the eggs until frothy, then mix in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the vanilla, sift in the cocoa and flour, and stir in the melted butter until combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 35-40 minutes.
  5. Cool the brownies completely on a wire rack.
  6. For the topping, combine evaporated milk, egg yolks, brown sugar, and butter in a saucepan and cook until thickened.
  7. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans, then let cool.
  8. Spread the topping over the cooled brownies and chill before cutting into squares.
