Ingredients

The meat

  • ½ lb uncooked 95% lean ground beef
  • ½ lb uncooked 99% lean ground turkey breast

The seasonings

  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

The vegetables

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 oz fresh spinach leaves

The liquids

  • 3 cups lower sodium beef broth
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup fat free half and half

The pasta

  • 12 oz medium-sized pasta (macaroni, rotini, etc.)

The garnish

  • 1 oz Parmesan cheese, finely shredded

Instructions

  1. Mist a large pot with cooking spray and heat it over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground beef and turkey, cooking until browned and broken into small chunks.
  3. Stir in salt, black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and diced onion, cooking until the onion is softened.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  5. Pour in beef broth, tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine.
  6. Add dry pasta, pressing it under the liquid, and bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Once the pasta is cooked and liquid is absorbed, stir in spinach until wilted.
  9. Remove from heat and mix in half and half and Parmesan cheese until melted.
  10. Let sit for a few minutes to thicken before serving.
