Ingredients

Filling

  • 5 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour

Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • tsp ground cinnamon
  • cup buttermilk
  • 5 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Place blueberries in a baking dish and drizzle with lemon juice.
  3. In a small bowl, mix sugar and flour, then sprinkle over blueberries and toss.
  4. Bake until the filling is hot and bubbling, about 25 minutes.
  5. Prepare the topping by mixing flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  6. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  7. Just before removing the filling from the oven, combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  8. Remove the filling from the oven, increase the temperature to 400°F, and dollop the batter over the blueberries.
  9. Sprinkle sugar over the dough and return to the oven until the topping is cooked through, about 12-14 minutes.
  10. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
