Basil Burgers with Sun-Dried Tomato Mayo

Ingredients

The burgers

  • 1 ½ lbs 95% lean ground beef
  • 6 tablespoons shredded 2% mozzarella cheese
  • 6 light whole wheat hamburger buns hamburger buns
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, coarsely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

The sun-dried tomato mayo

  • 0.5 oz chopped sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup low fat mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

For serving

  • to taste additional fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Soak the sun-dried tomatoes in boiling water for 5 minutes, then drain.
  2. Blend the drained tomatoes with mayonnaise in a food processor and refrigerate.
  3. Mix Worcestershire sauce, basil, Italian seasoning, garlic, pepper, salt, and ground beef in a large bowl.
  4. Form the meat mixture into 12 thin patties, placing cheese in the center of 6 patties and sealing with the remaining patties.
  5. Grill the burgers over medium heat for 5-7 minutes on each side until cooked through.
  6. Serve burgers on buns with the sun-dried tomato mayo and additional basil leaves.
