Homemade Italian Burgers

Ingredients

Pesto Mayonnaise

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup pesto

Burgers

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons pesto
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper or cayenne
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese

For Serving

  • 4 pieces hamburger buns
  • to taste arugula
  • to taste tomato
  • to taste red onion

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
  2. Combine mayonnaise and pesto in a small bowl and set aside.
  3. In a larger bowl, mix ground beef with pesto, Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper, sea salt, and black pepper.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 patties, about an inch thick.
  5. Grill the burgers, flipping once, until they reach desired doneness (about 6 to 8 minutes for medium-rare).
  6. Melt 2 slices of cheese on each burger.
  7. Toast the buns if desired and spread pesto mayonnaise on them.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a bun bottom and topping with arugula, tomato, and red onion.
