Ingredients

  • 1 candy cane full-size candy cane
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¾ cup hot strongly brewed coffee
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • to taste whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Crush the candy cane into fine crumbs using a zip-top bag and a rolling pin or meat mallet.
  2. In a small pot, combine cocoa powder, sugar, and water, and heat over medium heat until a smooth chocolate syrup forms.
  3. Whisk in the milk and add the crushed candy cane pieces, heating until the milk is steaming and the candy cane has dissolved.
  4. Pour the hot coffee into an 8-ounce mug and add the milk mixture and heavy cream if desired.
  5. Taste and add more sugar if needed, then top with whipped cream and serve.
