Gingerbread Loaves with Lemon Glaze

Ingredients

The batter

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 10 tablespoons butter
  • 2 units eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 unit zest of orange
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 3 tablespoons fresh grated ginger
  • 1-2 tablespoons hot water

The glaze

  • 1 unit juice of lemon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together.
  3. Add the eggs and beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Mix in all other ingredients except for the lemon juice and powdered sugar until moistened.
  5. Divide the batter between two greased loaf pans and bake for 30-45 minutes until golden brown.
  6. After cooling, mix the lemon juice with powdered sugar to make the glaze and spread it over the loaves.
