Instructions
- Chill the butter in the freezer while preparing the other ingredients.
- Combine the flours, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, maple syrup, molasses, and milk.
- Grate the chilled butter and mix it into the flour mixture until crumbly.
- Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and shape it into a thick circle, then chill in the freezer for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove the dough from the freezer, reshape if necessary, and cut into wedges.
- Brush the tops with egg whites for shine.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- For the glaze, melt the butter in a saucepan, then mix in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and maple syrup until smooth, adding water as needed.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm scones.
