Instructions
- Scald the milk and add butter, sugar, and salt, then cool the mixture to warm.
- Add the yeast to the milk mixture and mix thoroughly.
- In a heavy-duty mixer, combine the milk mixture with flour until the dough pulls away from the bowl.
- Add water gradually until the dough combines, then knead for 5-10 minutes.
- Cover the dough and let it rise for 2 hours, then punch down and let it rise for another 2 hours until doubled.
- For the sauce, simmer the tomato puree with salt, oregano, thyme, black pepper, sweet basil, and garlic for ½ hour.
- Grate mozzarella cheese to your preference.
- Grease a 10-inch deep-dish pizza pan or cast iron skillet.
- Roll out the crust to fit the pan, ensuring the edges come to the top.
- Layer sliced cheese on the bottom, add some sauce, then more cheese, and repeat, ending with mostly sauce on top.
- Bake at 425°F for 45 minutes or until bubbly.
