Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups Flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 package Instant Dry Yeast
  • 1 cup Water (approximately)

Sauce

  • 1 can (16 ounces) Tomato Puree
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Oregano
  • to taste Thyme
  • to taste Black pepper
  • to taste Sweet basil
  • to taste Garlic

Cheese

  • to preference Mozzarella cheese (grated)

Toppings

  • to preference Italian sausage
  • to preference Mushrooms
  • to preference Peppers
  • to preference Zucchini

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk and add butter, sugar, and salt, then cool the mixture to warm.
  2. Add the yeast to the milk mixture and mix thoroughly.
  3. In a heavy-duty mixer, combine the milk mixture with flour until the dough pulls away from the bowl.
  4. Add water gradually until the dough combines, then knead for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise for 2 hours, then punch down and let it rise for another 2 hours until doubled.
  6. For the sauce, simmer the tomato puree with salt, oregano, thyme, black pepper, sweet basil, and garlic for ½ hour.
  7. Grate mozzarella cheese to your preference.
  8. Grease a 10-inch deep-dish pizza pan or cast iron skillet.
  9. Roll out the crust to fit the pan, ensuring the edges come to the top.
  10. Layer sliced cheese on the bottom, add some sauce, then more cheese, and repeat, ending with mostly sauce on top.
  11. Bake at 425°F for 45 minutes or until bubbly.
