Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 4 cups Flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Tbsp. Butter
  • 1 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 package Instant Dry Yeast
  • 1 cup Water (approximately, adjust as needed)

Pizza Sauce

  • 1 small Yellow onion (chopped)
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • to taste Crushed red pepper
  • 1 tsp. Fennel
  • 1 small can Tomato sauce
  • 1 can Diced tomatoes (drained)
  • 2 Tbsp. Tomato paste
  • 1 pinch Sugar
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp. Dried oregano
  • to taste Fresh basil (chopped)

Toppings and Cheese

  • to taste Sausage, pepperoni, veggies, etc.
  • to preference Mozzarella cheese (shredded)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by scalding the milk and mixing in butter, sugar, and salt; let it cool.
  2. Add yeast to the milk mixture and combine with flour in a mixer until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes, then let it rise for 2 hours.
  4. Punch down the dough, knead briefly, and let it rise again for 2 hours.
  5. For the sauce, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil, then add crushed red pepper and fennel.
  6. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste; season and simmer for 30 minutes.
  7. Grease a deep-dish pizza pan and roll out the dough to fit, placing some sauce and cheese at the bottom.
  8. Layer sauce, toppings, and more cheese, finishing with a layer of sauce and cheese on top.
  9. Bake at 425°F for 45 minutes or until bubbly.
