Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef, turkey, or pork
  • ½ cup diced green bell pepper
  • ¼ cup diced onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons low carb brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard (or Dijon)
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth (or water with beef base)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Gather and chop the green bell pepper and onion, and mince the garlic.
  2. In a medium frying pan, cook the ground meat over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces until almost cooked through.
  3. Add the chopped vegetables and garlic to the pan and continue cooking until the meat is fully cooked.
  4. Stir in all remaining ingredients, adding the water last, and bring to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, adjusting seasonings to taste.
  6. Serve on low carb buns or as desired.
