Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • 1 and ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • ½ teaspoon gel red food coloring

The toppings

  • 32–36 Hershey’s Kisses

Coating

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy, then add the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. Mix in the dry ingredients, milk, and food coloring until combined. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare baking sheets.
  5. Roll the dough into balls, coat in sugar, and place on the baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 11-13 minutes until edges are set and centers are soft.
  7. Press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie and freeze for 10 minutes to set the chocolate.
