Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In a mixer, beat the sugar and butter until fluffy, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well.
- Mix in the red food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, scraping the bowl as needed.
- Roll the dough into 1 ½-inch balls and place them on the baking sheets, spaced 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges are golden brown, then cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter until creamy, then mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
- Spread the frosting on cooled cookies and sprinkle with red sugar if desired.
