Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and prepare your baking pan.
- Whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl.
- Mix the melted butter and honey or sugar, then pour into the flour mixture and combine.
- Gradually add the buttermilk in 2-3 additions, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface, shape it into a disc about 7-8 inches wide and 2 inches thick.
- Place the disc on the prepared baking pan, brush with buttermilk, and score an X on top.
- Bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown and the center is cooked through.
- Let the bread cool for 5 minutes before slicing, but for best flavor, cool for at least 30 minutes.
