Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon table salt

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar in a medium mixing bowl using a hand mixer until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until well combined.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the cinnamon and sugar for the coating.
  7. Roll the dough into 2-tablespoon sized balls and coat them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Place the dough balls on the prepared cookie sheet, leaving space between them.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the cookies are crackled and golden.
  10. Let the cookies sit for 2-3 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
