Ingredients

The dough

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

The mix-ins

  • 1 heaping cup chocolate covered pretzel pieces
  • to taste sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg and egg yolk, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix until a thick dough forms. Fold in the chocolate covered pretzel pieces.
  4. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 3 hours or up to 3 days.
  5. Let the dough soften at room temperature for 10 minutes before baking.
  6. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll the dough into balls and place them on the baking sheets, sprinkling with sea salt.
  8. Bake for 12-13 minutes until soft and slightly underbaked. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
