Ingredients

The dough

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • cup Hershey’s special dark cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chunks and/or chips

For topping

  • sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Chill the cookie dough for at least 3 hours or overnight.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, both cocoa powders, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined.
  6. Add the milk and chocolate chunks, mixing until the dough is sticky.
  7. Let the dough sit at room temperature for 10-20 minutes before scooping.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  9. Scoop the dough into balls and place them on the baking sheets, spacing them apart.
  10. Sprinkle each ball with sea salt before baking.
  11. Bake for 11-12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers are soft.
  12. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
