Ingredients

The beans

  • 53 ounces pork & beans

The flavorings

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard

The vegetables

  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 1 green bell pepper

The meat

  • 1 pound bacon

Instructions

  1. Cook the sliced bacon in a Dutch oven until it begins to crisp.
  2. Drain the bacon and reserve 2 tablespoons of the drippings.
  3. Cook the diced onion and green bell pepper in the reserved drippings until softened.
  4. Add the pork & beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and crumbled bacon to the pot.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover.
  6. Cook for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
