Ingredients

The beans

  • 2 cans (15-ounces each) pinto beans
  • 2 cans (15-ounces each) navy beans

The sauce

  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dijon or yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika

The base

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 cup small diced onion

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon and onion in a skillet until bacon is crispy and onions are translucent.
  2. Drain excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Rinse and drain two cans of beans and add them to the skillet with the undrained beans.
  4. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  5. For oven: Preheat to 350°F, transfer to a 9x13 dish, cover with foil, and bake for 1 hour. Uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbling.
  6. For slow cooker: Transfer to a slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours until bubbling.
  7. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving to thicken the sauce.
