Classic Baked Scones

Ingredients

  • C real butter
  • C flour
  • 3 T sugar
  • t baking powder
  • ¼ t salt
  • 1 egg beaten egg
  • 4-6 T milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  4. Combine the beaten egg with 4 tablespoons of milk and add to the dry mixture, mixing with a fork.
  5. If necessary, add up to 2 additional tablespoons of milk to bring the dough together.
  6. Gently pat the dough into a circle about ½ inch thick.
  7. Brush the top with milk or beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
  8. Cut into 6 wedges and place on a cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the bottoms are golden-brown and the tops are set.
  10. Serve warm with butter and jam or let cool for later use.
