Ingredients

The tea

  • 1 ½ cups dried hibiscus flowers
  • 4 cups water
  • 8 cups cold water

The sweetener

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

For serving

  • to taste ice
  • to taste lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Combine 4 cups of water and 1 ½ cups of dried hibiscus flowers in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes until the flowers soften.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the flowers, pressing down to extract as much liquid as possible.
  4. Stir in the sugar until it dissolves.
  5. Transfer the liquid to a large pitcher and mix in the remaining 8 cups of cold water.
  6. Serve over ice with lime wedges if desired.
