Ingredients

The cake

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 3 large ripe bananas, mashed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 large eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup Chocolate Hazelnut Butter or Nutella

The streusel topping

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup hazelnuts, toasted, peeled and roughly chopped
  • cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and spray an 8-inch square pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. 2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  3. 3. In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and sugar, mixing until combined, then stir in the dry ingredients without overmixing.
  4. 4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spoon the Chocolate Hazelnut Butter or Nutella over the batter, swirling it in with a toothpick.
  5. 5. For the streusel topping, mix together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cold butter until crumbly, then sprinkle it over the cake, followed by the hazelnuts and chocolate chips.
  6. 6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake is set and a toothpick comes out clean, then let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
