Ingredients

The yams

  • 3 lbs Yams or Sweet Potatoes, Fresh
  • 1.5 cups Water

The mixture

  • 5 Tbsp Butter, softened
  • ½ to ¾ cup Brown Sugar
  • ¾ tsp Vanilla
  • small pinch Cloves
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg

The topping

  • 1 ½ cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 1 Tbsp Butter, remaining

Optional garnish

  • to taste Toasted Pecans

Instructions

  1. Add water and a rack/trivet to the Instant Pot.
  2. Scrub the yams and pierce holes in them, then place them in the pot on the rack.
  3. Close the lid, lock it, and set the Steam Release Knob to Sealing.
  4. Select Pressure Cook for 20 minutes on High Pressure.
  5. While cooking, cream together 4 tablespoons of butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  6. Prepare a pie plate or baking dish.
  7. After cooking, let the pot naturally release pressure for 10 minutes, then manually release the remaining steam.
  8. Remove the yams and place them in the baking dish.
  9. Preheat the broiler to 350°F.
  10. Scrape the skins off the yams and mash them.
  11. Mix in the butter mixture with the mashed yams.
  12. Dot with remaining butter and spread mini marshmallows on top.
  13. Broil for 5-10 minutes until marshmallows are browned.
