Ingredients

The filling

  • 4 medium/large ripe pears, peeled and sliced
  • 3 medium/large apples, peeled and sliced
  • ½ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

The topping

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup old-fashioned whole rolled oats
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix all filling ingredients and spread them into the baking pan.
  3. For the topping, whisk together flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  4. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly, then stir in the oats.
  5. Sprinkle the topping over the filling in the baking pan.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling.
  7. Allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.
