Ingredients

Filling

  • 8 medium apples, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks
  • ½ cup light or dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Topping

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup old-fashioned whole rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Combine all filling ingredients in a large bowl and spread into the baking pan.
  3. For the topping, whisk together flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon, then cut in the butter until crumbly. Stir in the oats and sprinkle over the filling.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and juices are bubbling.
  5. Allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving, either warm or at room temperature.
