Ingredients

The fruit

  • 1 ½ pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 ½ pounds pears, peeled, cored, and sliced

The topping

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup cold butter, cut into bits
  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • cup chopped pecans
  • teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9 x 9 baking dish.
  2. Place the apples and pears in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon.
  4. Toss the flour mixture with the fruit and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  5. Arrange the fruit mixture in the prepared baking dish.
  6. In another bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter, rolled oats, chopped pecans, and salt.
  7. Use your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until it resembles a coarse meal.
  8. Spoon the mixture over the fruit in the baking dish.
  9. Bake for 1 hour or until browned and bubbly.
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving, and enjoy with ice cream or whipped cream.
