Ingredients

Dough ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons sea salt
  • 4 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup vegan butter
  • cup warm water

Frying ingredients

  • approximately 2 cups oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Incorporate the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles a sandy texture.
  4. Gradually add the warm water to the mixture, stirring to form a dough.
  5. Knead the dough for 2-4 minutes until combined, then let it rest covered for at least 10 minutes.
  6. Test the oil temperature by placing a small piece of dough in it; it should bubble when ready.
  7. Form the dough into golf-ball-sized balls and slightly flatten them.
  8. Fry the dumplings in the hot oil for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown.
  9. Drain the cooked dumplings on paper towels and serve warm.
