Berry Oat Tahini Bars

Ingredients

The batter

  • 2 cartons unsweetened berry applesauce
  • ½ cup tahini
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • a pinch salt

The topping

  • cup unsweetened berry fruit spread
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Process the berry applesauce, tahini, maple syrup, vanilla, flour, oats, flax seeds, baking powder, and salt in a food processor until smooth.
  3. Spray a 9x9-inch baking dish with nonstick spray and pour the batter into it, spreading evenly.
  4. Mix the fruit spread with water until smooth and spoon it over the batter.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes until a fork inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let cool for about 10 minutes before slicing into 9 bars.
