Caramel-Chocolate Oatmeal Bars

The filling

caramels (about 9 ounces), unwrapped

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 15x10 inch baking pan with foil.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then add brown sugar and mix until combined.
- Add eggs, vanilla, baking soda, and salt, and beat until well combined.
- Gradually mix in the flour, then stir in the oats.
- Press 2/3 of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over the dough layer.
- In a saucepan, melt the caramels with milk over low heat until smooth.
- Drizzle the melted caramel over the chocolate and nuts in the pan.
- Flatten small pieces of the remaining dough and place them over the caramel layer.
- Bake for 22-25 minutes until the top is lightly browned.
- Allow to cool before lifting the foil to cut into bars.
