Ingredients

The sweet potatoes

  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes

The glaze

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup water

The topping

  • 2-3 cups marshmallows
  • 1 piece foil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Add white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt to the melted butter and stir until the sugar melts.
  4. Add vanilla extract and stir until the glaze thickens.
  5. Pour in water and stir until the glaze caramelizes.
  6. Place sweet potatoes in a 9x13 baking dish.
  7. Pour the candied glaze over the sweet potatoes.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove foil, stir, baste the sweet potatoes, and sprinkle marshmallows on top.
  10. Return to the oven uncovered and bake for 10 minutes until marshmallows are melted and bubbly.
  11. Let sit for 15 minutes before serving.
