Instructions
- Whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan.
- Add the milk and egg yolks, whisking well to combine.
- Cook the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring constantly to prevent skin from forming.
- Once thickened and simmering, reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for 30 seconds while whisking.
- Remove from heat and strain the mixture into a heatproof bowl, then add the chocolate, butter, and vanilla, whisking until smooth.
- Cover with plastic wrap pressed against the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
- Chill the pudding for 4 hours to thicken.
- Whip the heavy cream and sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Stir the pudding, spoon it into serving dishes, top with whipped cream, and garnish with shaved chocolate.
