Salted Caramel Cookies

Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 unit egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

The caramel topping

  • 8 oz soft caramels
  • 1 tbsp milk or cream
  • to taste unit flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together softened butter and sugars until creamy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla, and mix until combined.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until well combined.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  7. Roll about 2 tablespoons of dough into balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are slightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on a rack.
  10. While cooling, melt the caramels and milk in a microwave-safe dish, stirring until smooth.
  11. Drizzle caramel over each cooled cookie and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
