The caramel topping

soft caramels

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, beat together softened butter and sugars until creamy.
- Add egg and vanilla, and mix until combined.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until well combined.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
- Roll about 2 tablespoons of dough into balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are slightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on a rack.
- While cooling, melt the caramels and milk in a microwave-safe dish, stirring until smooth.
- Drizzle caramel over each cooled cookie and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
