Ingredients

The Burgers

  • 2 pounds ground meat (beef, pork, or turkey)
  • 2 tablespoons finely minced fresh ginger or ginger paste
  • 3 pieces green onions (white and green parts finely chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 5-6 pieces burger buns (split and toasted)

The Peanut Sauce

  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 5 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon chili garlic sauce
  • 2 teaspoons finely minced fresh ginger or ginger paste
  • 2 cloves garlic (finely minced)

The Tangy Slaw

  • 1 cup grated carrots
  • 1 cup shredded purple cabbage
  • 1 piece green onion (white and green parts finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice or rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill to medium-high heat.
  2. In a food processor, combine ground meat, ginger, green onions, chili garlic sauce, salt, and pepper. Pulse until combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 5-6 patties.
  4. For the peanut sauce, whisk or blend all ingredients together.
  5. In a medium bowl, toss together carrots, cabbage, and green onion for the slaw.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk lime juice (or vinegar), oil, sugar, and season with salt and pepper. Toss with the slaw.
  7. Grill the burgers until desired doneness.
  8. Assemble the burgers on buns, topping with peanut sauce and slaw.
