Ingredients

The cake

  • 2 cups raisins
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • ¾ cup butter
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)

The glaze

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine raisins, sugar, water, butter, cinnamon, and cloves in a saucepan and bring to a boil; cool completely.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a bundt pan.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl.
  4. Whisk the eggs into the cooled spice mixture and combine with the dry ingredients in batches.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 55 minutes.
  6. Cool the cake completely before transferring it to a plate.
  7. Whisk together powdered sugar, water, and vanilla for the glaze, then drizzle over the cooled cake.
