Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C) and grease two 10-inch pans.
- Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
- Cream the butter, oil, and sugars until fluffy, then add sour cream.
- Add eggs gradually, mixing well after each addition.
- Combine the flour mixture with the wet ingredients, then add molasses and vanilla.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool before frosting.
- For the frosting, whisk cream cheese, butter, and vanilla until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar until smooth, then stir in nuts if using.
- Assemble the cake by frosting between layers and on the top and sides.
