  • cup packed light brown sugar

Brown Butter Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 6 tablespoons salted butter
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 1 cup toasted pecans, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.
  3. In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Spread the batter in the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.

  7. To make the frosting, brown the butter in a skillet and let it cool.
  8. Mix the cooled brown butter with cream cheese until combined.
  9. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, adjusting with milk or cream to desired consistency.
  10. Spread the frosting over the cooled cake and sprinkle with toasted pecans if desired.
