Spicy Green Harissa

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons cumin seeds or 1 teaspoon dried cumin
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro
  • ½ cup parsley
  • 2 leaves jalapeños, seeded if desired
  • 2 pieces green onions
  • 1 clove garlic, minced or grated
  • cup green olives (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½-¾ cup olive oil
  • 1 piece lemon, juiced

Instructions

  1. Toast the cumin seeds in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until fragrant, then let cool.
  2. In a food processor or high-powered blender, combine the toasted cumin seeds with cilantro, parsley, jalapeños, garlic, green onions, green olives (if using), olive oil, lemon juice, and salt.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Store the harissa in a sealed glass jar or container.
