Ingredients

Refried Bean Layer

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1 540 ml can black beans
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • 1 ½ tbsp hot sauce
  • 2 tsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream

Avocado Layer

  • 2 large ripe avocados
  • 3 sprigs green onion, chopped
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp lime juice

Other Layers

  • 1 ½ cups sour cream
  • 2 cups salsa
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 2+ cups cheddar cheese, grated
  • ¼ cup olives, sliced
  • 2 tbsp minced onion flakes
  • cup cilantro, leaves
  • to serve tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the refried beans by mashing black beans and cooking them with olive oil and diced onion until fragrant.
  2. Add spices, hot sauce, and lime juice to the beans, then stir in heavy cream and cook briefly.
  3. Spread the refried bean mixture in a glass casserole dish and cool in the fridge.
  4. Mash the avocados and mix with green onion, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and lime juice.
  5. Spread the avocado mixture over the cooled refried beans.
  6. Layer sour cream evenly over the avocado layer.
  7. Add salsa on top of the sour cream layer.
  8. Grate cheddar cheese and sprinkle it over the salsa.
  9. Top with diced tomato, minced onion flakes, sliced olives, and cilantro.
  10. Serve with tortilla chips.
