Sweet and Sour Shrimp

Ingredients

The shrimp

  • 1 lb shrimp, shelled and deveined, tail-on

The cooking ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste chopped scallions
  • to taste white sesame

The sweet and sour sauce

  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon chili sauce (optional)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • 5 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Rinse and drain the shrimp, then pat dry and set aside.
  2. Mix all the ingredients for the sweet and sour sauce together and set aside.
  3. Heat a skillet over high heat with the cooking oil and add the garlic, stir-frying until light brown.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet and stir-fry until the surface turns white.
  5. Add the sweet and sour sauce and cook for 1 minute, or until the shrimp is cooked through.
  6. If the sauce thickens too much, add more water to loosen it.
  7. Garnish with chopped scallions and white sesame seeds, and serve immediately.
