Sesame Shrimp

Ingredients

The shrimp

  • ½ lb shrimp, peeled, deveined and tail off
  • as needed unit oil for deep-frying
  • as needed unit white sesame seeds for garnishing

The frying batter

  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 unit egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

The sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons corn starch
  • cup water

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat the shrimp dry, then set aside.
  2. Combine all sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well, then set aside.
  3. Mix all frying batter ingredients in a bowl until smooth, then coat the shrimp with the batter.
  4. Heat oil in a wok or saucepan to 350°F (170°C) for deep frying.
  5. Gently drop the shrimp into the oil, ensuring they do not stick together, and fry until golden brown.
  6. Remove the fried shrimp and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. Add the sauce to the wok and stir until it thickens, then add the fried shrimp and coat them with the sauce.
  8. Garnish with white sesame seeds and serve immediately.
