Shrimp Stir Fry

Ingredients

The sauce

  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • cup tamari, soy sauce, or braggs
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • to taste pinch red pepper flakes

The stir fry

  • 10-12 ounces shrimp, raw, thawed, peeled and deveined
  • 4 cups broccoli, cut into small florets
  • ¾ cup red onion, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the orange juice, orange zest, 1 tablespoon of ginger, 2 minced garlic cloves, maple syrup, sesame oil, tamari, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch.
  2. Lightly salt the shrimp and heat a pan with oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp along with 1 teaspoon of ginger and ½ teaspoon of garlic. Cook for about 30 seconds on each side, then remove from the pan.
  3. Add the broccoli to the pan and stir-fry for about 5 minutes. Then add the red onion and sauté for another 3 minutes. Stir in the sauce and cook until it bubbles.
  4. Return the shrimp to the pan and stir for another minute until the shrimp is cooked through.
  5. Remove from heat and serve with jasmine rice, garnished with red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, and green onions.
